Pune, November 2 — Three young men lost their lives early Sunday morning after their car crashed into a Metro station pillar in Pune’s Bund Garden area. Police are investigating whether speeding or drunk driving led to the fatal accident.
According to officials from Koregaon Park police station, the victims have been identified as cousins Hritik Bhandari and Yash Bhandari, both working professionals, and Kushwant Tekwani, a college student from a private institute in Pune.
“The car rammed into a pillar of the Bund Garden Metro station around 4:49 am,” said Senior Police Inspector Sangita Jadhav. Locals rushed to help, and the victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Hritik and Yash were declared dead on arrival, while Kushwant succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
CCTV footage reviewed by police showed the vehicle traveling at an extremely high speed moments before the crash. “Prima facie, it appears that the driver lost control of the vehicle,” an official stated.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Mohite confirmed that Hritik and Yash were residents of the Pimpri area, while Kushwant belonged to Beed district. The police are awaiting medical reports to confirm whether alcohol consumption played a role in the incident.
