Jalandhar, September 30, 2025: Punjab’s Counter-Intelligence unit in Patiala achieved a major success against narcotics trafficking with the arrest of a suspected drug courier and the seizure of 4.721 kilograms of heroin in Jalandhar.
The accused has been identified as Vansh Kumar, a resident of Dalam in Batala. Officials revealed that Kumar was apprehended following actionable intelligence inputs, which pointed to his alleged links with Amrit Dalam, a Dubai-based handler originally from Batala. Investigators believe Amrit Dalam maintains close ties with jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, a known figure in Punjab’s criminal underworld.
Police confirmed that an FIR has been lodged at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar, and the probe is underway to unravel the network’s wider operations. Investigators are examining the source of the heroin, intended recipients, and both backward and forward linkages of the smuggling chain.
A Punjab Police spokesperson reaffirmed the force’s commitment to dismantling organised narcotics syndicates, adding that more arrests and seizures are expected in the coming days. Authorities stressed that international handlers and their local conduits remain under close watch.
The operation is being seen as a key strike in Punjab’s fight against drug trafficking, which continues to remain one of the state’s pressing challenges.
