Hemkund Sahib Yatra to begin on May 25, first Jatha to depart on May 22

Chamoli (National Times): The annual pilgrimage to Sri Hemkund Sahib, one of the most revered Sikh shrines located in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, is set to begin on May 25, 2025. As per tradition, the first jatha (group of pilgrims), led by the Panj Pyare, will depart on May 22, officially marking the commencement of this year’s yatra.

Army Arrives to Clear Trekking Route
In preparation for the pilgrimage, personnel from the Indian Army have reached Govindghat and begun the task of clearing snow from the trekking path. Their efforts are focused on ensuring a safe and unobstructed route for thousands of devotees expected to make the challenging journey.

Dignitaries to Attend Inaugural Ceremony
Recognizing the cultural and spiritual significance of the yatra, Uttarakhand Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Gurmit Singh, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, along with ministers, saints, and other notable figures, are scheduled to participate in ceremonial events at the Sri Hemkund Sahib complex in Rishikesh.

A Journey of Devotion at 15,000 Feet
Located at an altitude of approximately 15,000 feet, Hemkund Sahib draws lakhs of devotees each year. Due to its high elevation and snowbound terrain, the yatra is held during a limited window annually.

This year, the Hemkund Sahib Management Trust, working closely with the Indian Army and local authorities, has made comprehensive arrangements to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage for all visitors.

With preparations nearly complete, Hemkund Sahib is ready to welcome devotees once again on this sacred journey through the Himalayas.
