Heavy Rain Alerts in Several Punjab Districts, Yellow Warning Alert

National Times Bureau :- Several areas in Punjab have been experiencing rainfall since last night, with heavy showers expected in some regions over the next two days. The Chandigarh Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert valid until August 15.

In the past 24 hours, the state’s average maximum temperature dropped by 0.6°C, which is 3.5°C below normal. Bathinda recorded the highest temperature at 36.3°C. Patiala also received rainfall, with 8.4 mm measured.

Rising water levels in the Beas River, due to the release from Pong Dam, have created flood-like conditions in Hoshiarpur. Similar situations are reported in Ferozepur and Kapurthala. In Zira, water released from the Harike Head Works has submerged around 600 acres across seven villages, including Nizamwala, Sultana Wala, Chamdiwala, Basti Ram Lal, Basti Khan, Laddu, and Muthian. Husainiwala is also affected.

The meteorological department forecasts heavy rain today in six districts bordering Himachal Pradesh: Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali, and Fatehgarh Sahib, with rainfall expected in 75–100% of their areas.

In another six districts — Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, and Patiala — some regions may see rainfall covering 25–50% of the area. Additionally, light rain is expected in parts of Ferozepur, Moga, Fazilka, Muktsar Sahib, Faridkot, Bathinda, Barnala, Sangrur, and Mansa, affecting roughly 25% of these regions.
