Chandigarh (National Times): In a notable development, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued an interim order preventing the arrest of Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa until April 22. The court also directed the Punjab Government to respond to the legal petition filed by Bajwa, who has challenged the FIR lodged against him.
Likewise, the High Court has also asked Partap Bajwa not to issue any public statement in this regard.
The FIR stems from Bajwa’s controversial remark in which he alleged that 50 grenades had been brought into Punjab, 18 of which had already exploded. His claim sparked a political storm and led to a formal complaint being registered by the Punjab Police.
Bajwa approached the court seeking relief, arguing that the FIR was politically motivated. The court’s decision offers temporary protection, keeping law enforcement at bay while the matter undergoes judicial scrutiny.
