Chandigarh, March 17, 2025 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced plans to strengthen the state’s transport system with the purchase of 1,025 new buses under the 2025-26 budget. The fleet will include 500 non-AC BS-6 buses, 150 AC buses, and 375 electric buses. Saini emphasized that the goal is to modernize public transport and make it more convenient and environmentally friendly.
The government plans to build modern bus depots under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in Pipli, Karnal, Sector-36 (Gurugram), Ballabhgarh (Faridabad), and Sonipat. A new transport building will also be constructed at a cost of ₹71 crore.
To make travel easier, a live tracking system will be installed in buses, similar to railway tracking, to provide real-time updates to passengers. Additionally, Divyang (disabled) citizens will be able to travel free on state buses.
Saini said the government is focusing on reducing pollution and fuel consumption by increasing the number of electric vehicles. Haryana Roadways will add electric buses for long-distance travel, and the transition from diesel to electric buses is expected to save 1.5 lakh liters of diesel over the lifetime of each bus. The government aims to make 30% of the state’s transport fleet electric in the next five years.
The budget also introduces a lifetime tax on motor vehicles, replacing the current annual tax system. Automated vehicle testing stations will be set up under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules through the PPP model.
The government will install automatic bus washing machines in every district for improved maintenance and introduce modern machines for cleaning bus stands. Automatic testing stations will be established to check vehicle fitness, and the motor vehicle tax system will be simplified into a one-time payment.
Saini announced that the revised transport budget for 2024-25 was ₹3,088.52 crore. For 2025-26, the proposed budget has been increased by 9.71% to ₹3,388.47 crore.
