Chandigarh, December 9, 2025: The Haryana government is set to introduce a new scheme on the lines of the Pranavayu Devta Pension Scheme to boost the conservation of Rohida and Janti trees in south Haryana. Forest and Environment Minister Rao Narbir Singh announced the initiative during a review meeting held in Chandigarh on Monday.
Singh said the scheme will focus on regions such as Mahendragarh, Satnali, Charkhi Dadri, Badhra and Loharu, where these native species play a crucial ecological role. Farmers who protect Rohida and Janti trees on their farmland will receive an incentive of ₹500 per year, with the amount increasing annually.
The minister emphasised that conservation of the state’s natural heritage and environmental protection remain top priorities for the government. He directed officials to ensure effective ground-level implementation of all related initiatives.
Singh also reviewed the expansion of eco-tourism and instructed the department to prepare detailed development plans for Thapli in Morni Hills and the Chuhadpur region of Yamunanagar under the Eco-Tourism Policy. He added that similar action plans should be created for the Shivalik and Aravalli regions, with projects to be executed under the PPP model to promote tourism and generate local employment.
During the meeting, officials reported that under the Van Mitra Scheme, more than 71,000 pits were dug and 5,710 saplings were planted last year. The minister directed that Van Mitras should receive either financial assistance or necessary materials for fertilisation and maintenance work to ensure proper growth of saplings and accelerate the enhancement of forest cover.
