Haryana Police’s Strict Action on Cybercrime – List of Suspected Bank Branches Prepared, Action Initiated

Chandigarh, August 19 – Haryana Police has launched a major crackdown to curb cybercrime in the state. A total of 91 bank branches have been identified across Haryana where suspected ‘mule accounts’ are being operated by cybercriminals for large-scale fraudulent transactions. Among these, 26 branches are in Gurugram and 24 in district Nuh. After identifying these branches, police teams have initiated phased verification, inspection, and legal action.

Raids and Investigations
Special teams of the Cyber Crime Wing are conducting detailed examinations of the records of these branches to ensure that negligence or deliberate collusion of bank staff is not facilitating cybercriminals. The teams are scrutinizing lapses in KYC compliance, procedural violations in account opening, role of bank employees, and any signs of negligence.

Continuing this drive, raids were conducted today in the districts of Karnal and Yamunanagar. During the raids, bank records were thoroughly checked and suspicious accounts examined. In Yamunanagar, investigations revealed a current account of a firm that was officially shut down in March 2025, yet transactions worth ₹43 lakh were carried out in it afterward. Nationwide, eight complaints have been registered against this account. Another current account was found to be opened on a fake address, and transactions worth ₹2 crore were made in just three months. This account has 33 complaints filed against it across the country. The role of account holders and concerned bank staff is under probe, and strict action is being taken. It is clear that this operation will not remain confined to just two districts; similar raids will be extended to other suspicious bank branches in the coming days.

Zero Tolerance on Cybercrime: DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor Shares Haryana Police’s Multi-Pronged Strategy
Director General of Police, Haryana, Sh. Shatrujeet Kapoor stated that a robust and multi-pronged strategy has been devised to clamp down on cybercrime. This includes strict monitoring of bank branches, rapid analysis of suspicious transactions, regular raids, and ensuring adherence to banking regulations. He emphasized that protecting citizens’ hard-earned money from falling into the trap of cybercriminals is a top priority. He further stressed that banks hold equal responsibility alongside police, and therefore, personal accountability of bank officials and cyber nodal officers is being fixed. Haryana Police is pursuing a policy of zero tolerance in this regard, and even tougher steps will follow in the near future.

Police Appeal – Stay Alert, Stay Safe
Inspector General, Cyber, Sh. Shibas Kabiraj appealed to citizens to remain cautious and aware to protect themselves from cyber fraud. Cybercriminals often pose as bank officials, police officers, government agencies, or representatives of reputed companies to make fraudulent calls, send suspicious links, or trick people into downloading fake apps. In such situations, citizens must never share their OTP, ATM PIN, UPI PIN, passwords, or personal documents like Aadhaar and PAN, nor scan any unknown link or QR code.

Banks and government agencies never ask for money transfers or sensitive information over the phone. Citizens must also stay alert to emerging scams such as “digital arrest,” where fraudsters intimidate victims over video calls while posing as law enforcement – something no genuine police or agency ever does.

Haryana Police has urged that any suspicious transaction or fraud attempt should immediately be reported to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in) or the Cyber Helpline 1930. Timely complaints significantly increase the chances of fund recovery.

The IG added that public awareness is the strongest weapon in the fight against cybercrime. Alongside legal actions and raids, Haryana Police is continuously conducting awareness drives to empower citizens and achieve the goal of making the state free from cybercrime.
