Haryana Orders Statewide Fire Safety Audit of Nightclubs, Bars and Pubs

Chandigarh, December 10 — The Haryana government has ordered an immediate statewide fire safety audit of nightclubs, bars, pubs, and all entertainment venues with dance floors. The directive comes amid rising concerns over lapses in fire safety at such establishments.

Financial Commissioner of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Dr. Sumita Mishra, said the move aims to strengthen public safety and prevent any fire-related accidents. She stressed the need for heightened vigilance across Haryana and strict enforcement of safety norms.

All Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to conduct comprehensive audits without delay. These inspections will be carried out according to the provisions of the National Building Code, 2016, and the Haryana Fire and Emergency Services Act, 2022. Officials have been given a seven-day deadline to complete the process and submit their reports.

The audits will give special attention to emergency exits, their functionality, adequacy of firefighting arrangements, validity of licenses and permissions, and adherence to prescribed fire and life safety standards. Dr. Mishra clarified that any violations or deficiencies found during inspections must be rectified immediately, and strict legal action will follow wherever necessary.

Deputy Commissioners must submit detailed audit reports within seven days, along with information on action taken or planned. According to the Financial Commissioner, this initiative is intended to bolster the state’s fire safety preparedness and ensure that public places in Haryana remain secure from potential hazards.
