Haryana Municipal Elections to be Held on March 2, Model Code of Conduct Enforced


Chandigarh, February 11, 2025: The Haryana State Election Commission has announced the schedule for municipal elections, bringing the Model Code of Conduct into immediate effect. State Election Commissioner Dhanpat Singh confirmed that the elections will be conducted for Mayors and ward members in eight Municipal Corporations, along with Presidents and ward members in four Municipal Councils and 21 Municipal Committees. The general elections are set to take place on March 2, except in Panipat, where voting will be held on March 9.

By-elections will also be conducted for key positions, including the Mayor posts in Ambala and Sonipat, as well as Presidents for Sohna in Gurugram, Assandh in Karnal, and Ismailabad in Kurukshetra. Additionally, by-elections for ward members will take place in Ladwa’s Ward 11 in Kurukshetra, Safidon’s Ward 14 in Jind, and Taraori’s Ward 5 in Karnal.

With the Model Code of Conduct in place, the government is now restricted from announcing new schemes, laying foundation stones, or inaugurating projects and buildings in the affected areas. The State Election Commission has warned that any violations will be strictly monitored and action will be taken against offenders.

State Election Commissioner Dhanpat Singh also clarified that officers and employees involved in the election process cannot be transferred until the elections are completed. Any necessary transfers will require prior approval from the Election Commission. These measures have been put in place to ensure free and fair elections across the state.
