Eligible Backward Class Families to Receive ₹51,000 for Daughter’s Marriage
Chandigarh, July 2 – In a significant move towards inclusive development and social justice, the Haryana government has increased the financial assistance under the Mukhyamantri Vivah Shagun Yojana for eligible families belonging to the Backward Classes (BC). The Shagun amount has been raised from ₹41,000 to ₹51,000 for the marriage of daughters.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has approved the proposal, which is being hailed as a milestone in the state’s welfare efforts for backward communities. The enhanced assistance aims to ensure that no family feels helpless during their daughter’s marriage due to financial hardship. This financial aid not only alleviates economic stress but also reinforces social harmony and dignity.
The decision reflects the state government’s commitment to economic support as well as promoting self-reliance, equality, and social respect. Thousands of families are expected to benefit from the increased Shagun amount, enabling them to celebrate their daughters’ weddings with pride and dignity.
Who Will Receive the ₹51,000 Benefit?
The revised scheme will benefit the following categories:
Backward Class families with an annual income of ₹1.80 lakh or below, living below the poverty line.
Women sportspersons, who will be given ₹51,000 as a social encouragement at the time of their own marriage.
Divyang (differently-abled) couples, where either the bride or groom is a person with disability.
Existing Benefits for Other Disadvantaged Groups
The scheme is not limited to backward classes. The Haryana government has extended similar benefits to other underprivileged categories as well:
Scheduled Caste (SC), De-notified Tribes, and Tapriwas communities receive ₹71,000 under the scheme.
Widows, divorcees, or orphaned women who are remarrying (and did not receive the benefit during their first marriage) are eligible for ₹51,000.
Both partners with disabilities are also eligible for ₹51,000 financial assistance.
Simplified and Transparent Application Process
To avail the benefit, marriage registration must be completed within six months of the wedding date. The application process is digital, simple, and transparent to ensure seamless access for beneficiaries in both rural and urban areas. Eligible applicants can apply online through the dedicated portal: shadi.edisha.gov.in.
A Step Toward Holistic Empowerment
This initiative is more than just financial aid—it represents a strong step toward social justice, equality, and empowerment of backward classes. The government’s intent is clear: to uplift the marginalised and help them live with self-respect and independence. Haryana’s commitment to empowering disadvantaged communities is evident in this landmark move.
