Haryana Hikes Sugarcane Price by ₹15 Per Quintal, Farmers Receive a ‘Special Diwali Gift’: Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana

Minister hails CM Nayab Singh Saini’s farmer-friendly decision; says, “This Diwali, our farmers will celebrate with prosperity.”

Chandigarh, October 19 — Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana on Saturday hailed Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s decision to increase sugarcane prices by ₹15 per quintal, calling it a “Diwali gift” for the state’s cane farmers.

Under the new rates, the price of the early variety of sugarcane has been raised from ₹400 to ₹415 per quintal, while the late variety rate has increased from ₹393 to ₹408 per quintal. With this revision, Haryana has become the state offering the highest sugarcane price in India, reaffirming the government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare and income growth.

“This decision reflects our government’s strong resolve to ensure that farmers receive the best possible price for their hard work,” Rana said. “Under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s leadership, Haryana continues to lead from the front in supporting its farming community. This Diwali, our farmers will celebrate with greater prosperity and confidence,” he added.

The announcement came after a meeting of the State Sugarcane Control Board chaired by Minister Rana. The meeting also reviewed measures to ensure smooth functioning of cooperative and private sugar mills across the state. Rana directed officials to begin the crushing season on time and ensure that farmers receive timely payments without any delay.

The minister further stated that the state government has already cleared most of the pending dues of cane farmers from previous seasons. “Our goal is to make sure no farmer faces financial stress due to payment delays. Most mills are prepared to start operations as scheduled,” he assured.

The upcoming crushing season, beginning in early November, is expected to strengthen Haryana’s rural economy further. The minister said the continuous increase in cane prices would encourage crop diversification toward high-value and sustainable crops, enhancing the state’s agricultural resilience.
