Haryana Hikes Power Tariffs After Three Years to Recover ₹4,520 Crore Loss

Chandigarh, April 2, 2025 – The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) has increased electricity tariffs by 20 to 40 paise per unit, effective April 1, 2025. The first revision in three years, this hike aims to recover ₹4,520 crore in losses incurred by power corporations and will impact 81 lakh consumers statewide.

Revised Tariff Rates
Farmers:

Unit rate raised from ₹6.48 to ₹7.35, but farmers will continue paying only 10 paise per unit due to government subsidies.

Domestic Consumers:
Up to 150 units: Bills will increase by ₹30 per cycle.

151-300 units: Introduction of a unified slab, reducing costs for those consuming around 250 units.

Industries:
High-tension supply: Up 30-35 paise per unit.

Low-tension (LT) supply: Up 10-15 paise per unit.

Bulk supply: Up 40 paise per unit.

11 kV supply: ₹6.65 → ₹6.95 per unit.

33 kV supply: ₹6.55 → ₹6.85 per unit.

Additional Charges & FSA
The Fuel Surcharge Adjustment (FSA) of 47 paise per unit remains until 2026.

Consumers using above 200 units will pay an additional ₹94.47.

Those using up to 200 units will not face extra FSA charges.

To provide relief, the minimum charge for farmers with metered connections has been reduced from ₹200 to ₹180 per BHP per year.

Despite increased household and industrial bills, the government argues the hike is essential for power sector stability and maintaining electricity infrastructure in the state.
