Haryana Government to Launch Statewide Campaign to Rehabilitate Stray Cattle from August 1

Chandigarh, July 30 – In a decisive move towards making Haryana free of stray cattle, the state government will initiate a statewide stray animal-free campaign in mission mode from August 1 to August 31, 2025. This was announced after a review meeting held today with officials from the Gau Seva Commission, Urban Local Bodies Department, and Animal Husbandry Department, chaired by Dr. Saket Kumar, Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister.

The campaign will be conducted under the directives of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who has instructed officials to implement swift and coordinated actions to address the stray animal problem across the state.

Under this initiative, stray animals roaming in urban and rural areas will be identified, tagged, documented, and rehabilitated in registered gaushalas (cow shelters), where they will receive proper care and shelter. The campaign aims to ensure humane treatment, effective monitoring, and structured management of stray cattle.

Dr. Kumar informed that the Animal Husbandry Department will soon establish cow sanctuaries in four districts of the state. These sanctuaries will serve as long-term shelters and will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister.

In line with the Chief Minister’s announcement, the state government has approved an incentive scheme for the rehabilitation of stray animals. Under this scheme, gaushala workers will transport stray animals to shelter homes. Upon departmental verification, financial aid will be provided through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The aid includes ₹300 for each calf, ₹600 for each cow, and ₹800 for each bull. A total of ₹4 crore has been sanctioned for the implementation of this scheme.
