Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): The Haryana health department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ‘Medanta Foundation – Poor and Needy Patients Welfare Trust’ to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services in the state. The agreement focuses on upgrading and operating the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Ateli in the Mahendragarh district. Haryana Health Minister Arti Singh Rao and the Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta Foundation, Dr. Naresh Trehan, exchanged the agreement documents in Chandigarh.
Health Minister Rao described the collaboration as a milestone under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving rural healthcare infrastructure. Under this strategic partnership, the Ateli health centre is proposed to be upgraded to a 50-bed sub-divisional hospital. Similar healthcare infrastructure improvements are planned for Mirpur in Rewari and Farrukhnagar in Gurugram in the subsequent phases. The initiative aims to enhance access to quality healthcare for women, newborns, and children through infrastructure upgrades, specialist services, and community outreach.
As part of the agreement, the Medanta Foundation will set up a dedicated Caesarean section operation theatre, renovate the existing labour room, install advanced ultrasound and diagnostic equipment, and establish an anaemia screening clinic at the Ateli facility. Furthermore, the foundation will ensure the deployment of specialist medical personnel, including gynaecologists, paediatricians, anaesthetists, and radiologists, through an approved service provider.
The partnership will also deliver preventive and curative outpatient department (OPD) services, cancer screening for women, point-of-care diagnostic testing, ‘Kangaroo Mother Care’ (KMC) facilities for newborns, ambulance support, and regular health camps. The initial agreement spans three years, with the possibility of an extension through mutual consent. Under this framework, the state health department will supply the required infrastructure, utilities, medicines, and laboratory support, while Medanta Foundation will contribute technical expertise, equipment, and specialist manpower.
