Chandigarh, September 4 – The Haryana Government has directed all departments, boards, and corporations to immediately initiate the disposal process of surplus and unused materials. Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi issued an official letter in this regard.
According to the letter, timely disposal of obsolete and surplus items is essential to ensure financial discipline and optimum utilization of resources. Departments have been instructed to declare such materials as unusable and seek approval from the competent authority before proceeding with disposal. Necessary details must then be forwarded to the Director General, Supplies and Disposal, or the concerned Deputy Commissioner.
Departments are required to submit complete details of surplus or unused items in the prescribed format, including type of material, year of purchase, quantity, purchase price, present condition, and remarks. An initial action report must be submitted within 30 days of the letter’s issuance, followed by regular quarterly progress reports.
The government noted that a large amount of surplus and obsolete material is lying idle across several departments, boards, and corporations. Storing such items for long periods not only blocks valuable storage space but also increases the risk of asset deterioration. Furthermore, it unnecessarily ties up public funds that could otherwise be used for more productive purposes.
