Chandigarh, December 19: Haryana’s Revenue, Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Minister Vipul Goel on Thursday said that the present state government has provided compensation worth ₹4,771.89 crore to farmers affected by crop damage, highlighting a sharp contrast with the previous Congress regime.
Replying to a question during the Question Hour on the second day of the Haryana Assembly’s winter session, Goel said that between 2005 and 2014, when the Congress was in power, farmers received only ₹1,158 crore as compensation.
The minister asserted that the BJP-led government stands with farmers in both times of distress and prosperity. He said the crop damage assessment process involves multiple levels of verification, including inspections by patwaris, girdawars, sub-divisional magistrates and deputy commissioners.
Goel added that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has personally reviewed the compensation assessment mechanism to ensure transparency and fairness. He said strict action has been taken wherever lapses or negligence were found, and officials responsible for irregularities have been charge-sheeted.
The minister reiterated that the state government remains committed to safeguarding farmers’ interests and ensuring timely and adequate relief during natural disasters and crop losses.
