Haryana Facing Financial Emergency, Debt Increasing Every Year: Kumari Selja

Chandigarh, March 5 – All India Congress Committee General Secretary, former Union Minister, and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja has raised concerns over Haryana’s financial situation, comparing it to a financial emergency. She stated that the state’s debt burden continues to rise annually, and if the government wants to reduce it, it must prioritize financial management and take strict measures to curb corruption. She emphasized that the more employment opportunities the government creates, the better the state’s economic condition will become. At present, Haryana’s debt exceeds its budget.

In a statement to the media, Selja urged the government to focus on increasing citizens’ income, generating employment, and promoting industries. She criticized the government for claiming to have eradicated poverty while over 70% of the population in Haryana still lives below the poverty line. She pointed out that 35% of the state’s annual development projects are funded through borrowed money. She remarked that when a government becomes dependent on loans for basic expenditures, it can no longer be trusted to deliver on its promises.

According to Selja, Haryana ranks 14th among 18 states in financial management and economic efficiency, trailing behind states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. She stressed that the state budget should prioritize all sections of society, ensuring that government announcements have a set timeline and that past promises are fulfilled before making new commitments. She also called for specific budgetary allocations to complete ongoing projects.

Highlighting corruption as the biggest blow to Haryana’s economy, Selja said that the financial system is struggling and that strict action against corrupt individuals, without any bias, is essential to economic recovery. She added that improved financial management would ensure the efficient use of resources
