Chandigarh, September 11, 2025 – Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Haryana has achieved unprecedented success in its mission to eradicate drugs, with police action, government policy, and community participation turning the campaign into a statewide movement.
According to official data, between January and August 2025, Haryana Police declared 4,233 villages and 910 urban wards drug-free after a stringent triple-layer verification process involving the CID and the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB). Kurukshetra leads with 410 drug-free villages, followed by Nuh with 310 and Kaithal with 232.
Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur said the campaign is more than a law-and-order exercise, calling it a “social and moral responsibility.” He stressed that when society, administration, and police join hands, lasting change becomes possible.
The fight against narcotics has not been limited to arrests. Courts have handed out convictions in 42 out of 67 commercial quantity cases this year, giving a conviction rate of nearly 63%. Districts including Hisar, Gurugram, Nuh, Faridabad, and Sirsa reported a 100% conviction rate. In 2024, the rate stood higher at over 71%, but police say judicial processes have become quicker in 2025.
To cripple drug networks financially, authorities have seized and frozen properties worth more than ₹1.75 crore this year under Section 68F of the NDPS Act. Proceedings are underway against assets valued at over ₹32 crore. Police officials said these actions ensure traffickers cannot reinvest their illicit wealth into the narcotics trade.
Operational data also highlights sharper action on the ground. Between January and August 2025, police registered 307 FIRs in commercial quantity cases, naming 783 accused. Of these, 437 were caught on the spot and 346 were arrested through extended network probes. In contrast, out of 1,158 accused in 2024, only 613 were apprehended immediately.
Preventive measures have also been stepped up under the PITNDPS Act, with detention orders approved in 51 cases this year. Districts such as Dabwali, Hisar, and Sirsa have been particularly proactive.
HSNCB chief O.P. Singh noted that Haryana’s integrated strategy of enforcement, awareness, and economic crackdowns demonstrates how even deep-rooted social challenges can be addressed. He said the initiative offers a roadmap for a drug-free India, making Haryana a model for the entire nation.
