Haryana CM Saini Inaugurates Surajkund Diwali Mela, Promotes ‘Vocal for Local’ and Self-Reliance

Faridabad, October 2: Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini inaugurated the Diwali Mela at Surajkund, Faridabad, emphasizing that India’s path to becoming a developed nation by 2047 lies in Vocal for Local, self-reliance, and indigenous products. Addressing the gathering, CM Saini said, “Just as the Swadeshi movement fueled India’s freedom struggle, self-reliance through local products will drive the nation’s prosperity today.”

CM Saini extended greetings on Vijayadashami and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries. He explained that this year’s mela, themed Atmanirbhar Bharat – Swadeshi Mela and We Unite Families, serves as a platform to celebrate local arts, culture, and entrepreneurship.

“This mela not only entertains but empowers local artisans by providing them direct exposure to urban consumers,” he said. He encouraged visitors to purchase products made in India, highlighting that such choices will motivate craftsmen and strengthen India’s journey toward self-reliance. The CM also outlined the Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan, a nationwide campaign inspired by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, running until December 25 to promote local products.

Haryana Minister for Cooperation, Heritage, and Tourism Dr. Arvind Sharma welcomed CM Saini and highlighted the significance of Swadeshi products in making the nation self-reliant. He noted that the state government has been actively promoting indigenous products through various melas, including the Mango Mela, Rakhi Mela, and now the Surajkund Diwali Mela, which features over 450 stalls displaying local crafts, foods, and artisanal items until October 7.

The event also showcased cultural performances, traditional music, and craft displays, offering visitors a glimpse of India’s rich heritage. CM Saini toured the mela grounds, interacting with artisans and encouraging public participation in promoting indigenous products.

Other dignitaries present included Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goyal, Food & Consumer Affairs Minister Rajesh Nagar, former minister and Ballabhgarh MLA Moolchand Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary Tourism Kala Ramachandran, Haryana Tourism MD Dr. Shaleen, and Deputy Commissioner Vikram Singh Yadav.
