Haryana CM Orders Action in Basai Water Treatment Tender Irregularities, Clears ₹851 Crore Projects

Chandigarh, September 12 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has ordered strict action against irregularities in the tender process of Gurugram’s Basai Water Treatment Project. The Chief Minister directed that the chief engineer responsible be charge-sheeted for negligence.

Saini said deliberate violations of rules during the tender process led to financial losses for the state and delayed the project’s execution, depriving the public of timely benefits. Chairing a meeting of the High-Powered Purchase Committee (HPPC) and the High-Powered Works Purchase Committee (HPWPC), he emphasized that honesty, quality, and timeliness in development projects are non-negotiable.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the government follows a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and misconduct. He said officials compromising public interest would not be spared under any circumstances.

During the meeting, contracts and procurement worth about ₹851 crore were approved. Negotiations with various bidders led to savings of nearly ₹28 crore.

The committees also cleared projects worth over ₹178 crore for road strengthening, including the four-laning of Hansi–Tosham Road and repair and reinforcement works across Karnal, Kaithal, Rohtak, Rewari, Gohana, Bhiwani, and Fatehabad districts. Additionally, transformer repairs worth ₹133 crore and procurement of 18,353 black polythene covers for the food and civil supplies department were approved.

Other approvals included ₹14 crore for remodeling the Rana Distributary canal and ₹15.47 crore for new 132/11 kV transformers.

The meeting was attended by cabinet ministers Vipul Goel, Shyam Singh Rana, Ranbir Gangwa, Minister of State Rajesh Nagar, senior secretaries, and departmental officials.
