Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini Holds High-Level Review on Law and Order, Orders Strict Action Against Crime and Drug Trafficking

Chandigarh, July 11 — Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini convened a high-level meeting late Thursday to review the state’s law and order situation, issuing clear directives to senior officials to maintain tight oversight of criminal activities down to the police station level. He stressed that accountability must not be limited to the district level but should extend to individual police stations to effectively curb crime.

During the nearly four-hour meeting, the Chief Minister discussed various issues in detail, including police action on criminal cases and the need to improve police conduct and efficiency.

“Negligence in crime control will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” Saini declared. He called for maximum use of technological tools for real-time reporting and analysis of crimes, enabling the police system to become more effective and responsive.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government is committed to curbing crime and ensuring a safe environment for the public.

CM Orders Tough Measures on Extortion, Ensuring Prompt Action Against Offenders

Taking a serious view of extortion and ransom cases, the Chief Minister issued stern instructions that such serious crimes would not be tolerated and that swift, strict action must be taken against offenders.

He directed the police administration to remain vigilant and proactive to ensure citizens feel secure and confident that the police are dedicated to their protection.

Enhanced Safety Measures for Women and Female Students

Giving top priority to the safety of women and female students, the Chief Minister instructed police officials to regularly inspect schools and colleges, especially girls’ institutions. He stressed the importance of engaging with students to raise awareness and prevent untoward incidents.

He also directed that special patrolling be arranged during school and college closing hours to instill a sense of security among students and their parents.

Officials briefed the meeting that police have already identified various hotspots and sensitive routes through interactions with working women and female students, with officers deployed at these locations to ensure tight security.

Saini reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing a safe environment for women and instructed officials to regularly review security measures and implement new strategies as needed to prevent any inconvenience or fear among women and female students.

Heightened Patrolling in Crowded Areas

Prioritizing public safety, the Chief Minister called for effective patrolling in markets and major public places, especially during crowded periods. He also ordered that conditions in other sensitive locations be reviewed regularly, with additional patrols deployed as necessary. He further directed that the “Durga Shakti Force” conduct special patrols to protect women.

Zero Tolerance on Drug Trafficking, Accountability Fixed

Addressing drug and narcotics-related issues, Saini ordered strict measures to curb drug trafficking and usage. He instructed that police officers be assigned specific responsibilities in each district. The government, he asserted, is determined to protect youth from falling prey to drugs and will conduct robust, coordinated campaigns.

The Chief Minister stated that the Haryana government is taking every possible step to achieve a “Drug-Free Haryana.” He directed the police to take strict action against drug peddlers and to regularly review drug-related cases registered in police stations. He emphasized speeding up prosecution processes to ensure swift punishment for offenders.

Police Officers Warned Against Indiscipline

Issuing a stern warning, Saini said police behavior and conduct must improve to make the force more efficient and citizen-friendly. He directed all Superintendents of Police to instruct their field staff unequivocally that any police personnel found consuming alcohol while on duty or in uniform would face immediate and strict action.

“The police exist to serve and protect the public, and indiscipline or irresponsible conduct will not be tolerated,” the Chief Minister affirmed.

Swift Action on Citizen Complaints

Saini further instructed that complaints submitted in writing by citizens, particularly those recorded on the “Jan Samvad” portal, must be addressed swiftly and resolved in a time-bound manner. He emphasized that attending to citizens’ grievances is a top priority of governance and that complainants should receive justice without delay.

He directed officials to prioritize every complaint and regularly update progress on the Jan Samvad portal.

Strengthening Public Engagement and Fast-Tracking Extortion Cases

Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi urged officials to engage directly with citizens, listen to their issues, and resolve them on a priority basis. He noted that direct interaction between officers and the public would bolster the administration’s and police’s image and strengthen public trust.

Rajesh Khullar, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, announced that, following the CM’s instructions, extortion cells would be established in every district as special teams to investigate extortion and similar cases thoroughly. He instructed officials to ensure swift and effective action against offenders to secure rapid convictions and send a strong message to society.

Citizens to Receive Complaint Receipts at Police Stations

Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, Dr. Sumita Mishra, directed Superintendents of Police to increase patrolling and vigilance in all districts to enhance the sense of security among the public. She emphasized that citizens visiting police stations to file complaints must be immediately provided with a receipt, ensuring transparency and timely justice.

She further directed Superintendents of Police to conduct regular inspections of their police stations and maintain direct dialogue with the public. This, she said, would facilitate faster resolution of public grievances and further strengthen people’s trust in the police administration. The administration’s priority, she stressed, is to ensure safe, transparent, and effective police services for every citizen. Continuous monitoring of crimes, particularly those against women and cases registered under the NDPS Act, was also stressed, along with ensuring timely and impartial investigations to secure swift justice.

The meeting was attended by DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor, Haryana Advocate General, and other senior police officials.
