Chandigarh, September 7 — Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday flagged off 25 trucks carrying relief material for flood-affected regions of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh from the BJP state office in Panchkula. Of these, 15 trucks were sent to Punjab and 10 to Himachal.
Before dispatching the aid, the Chief Minister offered prayers at the Mata Mansa Devi temple and sought blessings. He said that helping people in times of natural disaster is a duty. “Essential items of daily use are being sent so that no family suffers in this difficult time. Both Punjab and Himachal have witnessed extensive damage, with entire villages affected and livestock also impacted,” Saini told reporters.
He added that relief work in Haryana’s own waterlogged areas is ongoing, with priority measures being implemented. Over 1.69 lakh farmers have registered 9.96 lakh acres of affected land on the state’s e-compensation portal. Families that lost lives due to collapsed roofs during the rains have been given ₹4 lakh each in assistance, while injured persons have also received financial aid.
Saini said Haryana has been in constant touch with Punjab since the disaster struck. “On the very first day, I wrote to the Punjab CM, assuring immediate help. Relief trucks are being dispatched daily,” he said.
Himachal BJP president Rajeev Bindal expressed gratitude to CM Saini, stating that the 10 trucks will provide relief to every affected family in Chamba district. The consignments include rice, flour, sugar, pulses, tarpaulins, blankets, and bedding.
The relief initiative is being carried out under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP president J.P. Nadda’s guidance, with the spirit of “Seva Hi Sangathan.” Several senior BJP leaders and officials, including former minister Asim Goyal and Kalka MLA Shakti Rani Sharma, were present at the flag-off ceremony.
