Kurukshetra (National Times): In the spirit of promoting health and wellness through yoga, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini flagged off the ‘Run for Yoga’ marathon in Kurukshetra on Sunday. The event marked the beginning of a series of activities being held across the state in the run-up to the 11th International Day of Yoga, which will be celebrated globally on June 21.
Encouraging the public to embrace yoga as a part of their daily lives, CM Saini said, “We should dedicate at least one hour every day for our physical and mental well-being. Yoga is not just an exercise but a way of life. It must become an integral part of our body and mind.”
Highlighting the state’s preparations, Saini shared that Yoga-related activities have been underway since May 27 across various departments in Haryana. “This year’s theme, ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’, resonates deeply with the global call for harmony between personal well-being and planetary health,” he noted.
CM Saini also announced that Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev will join the main Yoga Day celebrations at Brahma Sarovar, a historic site in Kurukshetra, adding spiritual significance to the occasion. “This sacred site, where Lord Krishna delivered the timeless message of karma, will be the centre of our state-level event,” Saini said.
The Chief Minister has set an ambitious goal for this year’s celebration, mass participation across all 22 districts and 121 blocks, aiming for over 11 lakh participants, with one lakh people expected to gather at Brahma Sarovar alone, potentially setting a new world record.
The state’s Yoga Protocol Training Camps are in full swing to ensure large-scale participation. On Friday, Saini addressed one such camp, jointly organised by the AYUSH Department, Haryana Yog Aayog, and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) at the ITBP Basic Training Centre in Bhanu, Panchkula.
Meanwhile, in Dehradun, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also joined the Yoga movement, participating in a similar ‘Run for Yoga’ event held on Sunday.
As the countdown to June 21 begins, Haryana is positioning itself as a leading state in celebrating and promoting yoga, not just as a form of exercise, but as a unifying force for community health and global well-being
