Haryana CM Launches Statewide Essay Competition to Honor the Supreme Sacrifice of Sahibzadas on Veer Bal Diwas

Chandigarh, December 12: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday virtually inaugurated a state-level essay writing competition in schools to mark Veer Bal Diwas. The initiative aims to spread the message of courage and supreme sacrifice of the Sahibzadas—Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh—across the state.

Thousands of students from various schools joined the virtual event, where the Chief Minister interacted with them and encouraged them to draw inspiration from the lives of the young martyrs. Saini said that the more students read and reflect on the bravery of the Sahibzadas, the more clarity and determination they will gain in their own lives.

The Chief Minister said that the competition is being organized in four languages—Hindi, English, Punjabi and Sanskrit. He encouraged students to express their thoughts meaningfully through their essays and extended his best wishes to all participants.

Saini highlighted that the younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh—Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh—showed extraordinary courage and truthfulness at the young ages of nine and six. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision in 2022 to observe December 26 every year as Veer Bal Diwas has ensured that the entire nation remembers and honors these young heroes.

He added that the sacrifice of the Sahibzadas teaches that even children can shoulder great responsibilities. He urged students to embrace values of honesty, bravery and discipline in their daily lives and contribute to the nation by staying rooted in culture and ethics.

Saini emphasized the role of teachers as guides and moral anchors. Drawing parallels to how Guru Gobind Singh taught his sons the principles of righteousness and courage, he said teachers should continue nurturing strong character, values and patriotism in children. He urged students to adopt the principles of the Sahibzadas in their lives and take small daily steps such as helping peers, maintaining cleanliness, respecting teachers, supporting weaker classmates, speaking the truth, and standing against wrongdoing.

The Chief Minister said that such competitions strengthen students’ connection with their heritage and instill pride in their history. Prize amounts have also been fixed—₹21,000 for first place, ₹11,000 for second, and ₹5,100 for third at the state level in all four languages. District-level winners will receive ₹3,100 each.

He called upon students and society to remember the martyrdom of the Sahibzadas and pledge to build a nation where every child grows up honest, hardworking and patriotic.

Chief Principal Secretary to CM Rajesh Khullar, Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Dr. Sumita Misra, Additional Chief Secretary (School Education) Vineet Garg, Deputy Principal Secretary Yash Pal, OSD Dr. Prabhleen Singh and other officials were present.
