Haryana Cabinet Approves Amendments to Punjab Police Rules for Constable and SI Recruitment

Chandigarh, December 8 — The Haryana Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, has approved amendments to the Punjab Police Rules, 1934, to streamline direct recruitment for constable and sub-inspector posts in the Haryana Police. The modified rules will be notified as the Punjab Police (Haryana Amendment) Rules, 2025.

Under the revised framework, Rule 12.16 of the 1934 Rules has been updated. The existing sub-rule (8) has been replaced with a provision enabling the Haryana Staff Selection Commission to shortlist candidates for the knowledge test at a ratio of ten times the total advertised vacancies in each category. Only candidates who clear the Physical Measurement Test (PMT) and Physical Screening Test (PST) will be considered for shortlisting.

The knowledge test will carry 97 percent weightage and will consist of objective, multiple-choice questions of equal marks. The exam will be conducted in both Hindi and English, except in sections specifically testing language proficiency.

The question paper will include topics such as general studies, general science, current affairs, logical reasoning, mental ability, numerical aptitude, agriculture, animal husbandry and other relevant trades. At least 10 percent of questions will be based on basic computer knowledge, while a minimum of 20 percent will focus on Haryana-related general knowledge. The difficulty level will match the required educational qualification: Class 12 for constable applicants and graduation for sub-inspector candidates.

Candidates applying for unreserved category posts must score at least 50 percent marks in the knowledge test. Reserved category candidates, both vertical and horizontal, will receive a 10 percent relaxation, lowering their qualifying marks to 40 percent.

The Cabinet has also replaced sub-rule (10) with a new provision granting additional weightage to NCC certificate holders. Candidates possessing an ‘A’ certificate will receive 1 mark, ‘B’ certificate holders will get 2 marks and those with a ‘C’ certificate will be awarded 3 marks. This benefit applies to both constable and sub-inspector recruitments.
