Chandigarh, June 2 – The Haryana government has officially launched sunflower procurement from June 1 in 17 designated mandis spread across five districts. The procurement process, managed by the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department, will continue until June 30.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Rajesh Nagar stated that the central government has approved procurement of up to 8,883 metric tonnes of sunflower under the Price Support Scheme (PSS). This year, 18,166 farmers registered for sunflower procurement under the ‘Meri Fasal Mera Byora’ (My Crop, My Details) portal. The minimum support price (MSP) for sunflower has been set at ₹7,280 per quintal, while the current market price hovers between ₹6,400 and ₹6,500.
According to data from the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, sunflower was sown on 76,785 acres this year, with an expected yield of 44,062 metric tonnes.
Procurement agencies involved in the process include HAFED (Haryana State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation) and the Haryana Warehousing Corporation (HWC). Mandis have been allocated accordingly: in Ambala district, HAFED will operate in Ambala City, Ambala Cantt, Shahzadpur, Saha, and Barara, while HWC will oversee procurement in Mullana. In Karnal, HAFED will handle purchases. Kurukshetra district has multiple centers – HWC at Ismailabad and Thol, HAFED at Thanesar, Shahabad, Ladwa, and Babain, and HWC at Jhansa and Shahabad. In Panchkula, Barwala’s mandi is assigned to HAFED, and in Yamunanagar, Sadaura is under HWC.
Last year, HAFED was the sole agency responsible for sunflower procurement during the 2024-25 season.
