Haryana Assembly Monsoon Session Concludes; CM Saini Hits Back at Congress on Vote Rigging Allegations

Chandigarh, August 27 – The monsoon session of the Haryana Assembly, held from August 22 to 27, concluded with four sittings. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini informed that during the session, a resolution was passed to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, and six bills were unanimously approved.

Addressing a press conference after the session’s conclusion on Wednesday, the Chief Minister launched a strong counterattack on the Congress party over allegations of “bogus voting,” accusing it of being historically responsible for electoral fraud, corruption, and undermining democracy.

Congress’s Track Record Questioned

CM Saini recalled that in the 1946 internal elections of the Congress, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had received 14 votes compared to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s single vote, yet Nehru was declared the winner. “That was the real booth capturing,” he remarked.

He also cited the 2009 Haryana Assembly elections, where Congress leader Sukhbir Kataria faced accusations of manipulating voter lists and using fake voter IDs. Two new FIRs were filed in this case in 2013. The CM further alleged that Congress imposed the Emergency, strangled citizens’ constitutional rights, and institutionalized electoral malpractices such as booth capturing, pressure tactics, and vote-buying through liquor and money.

Opposition to ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ Criticized

CM Saini termed the opposition’s criticism of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative as “unfortunate.” He said the program was necessary because the state’s sex ratio had sharply declined during Congress rule, standing at only 871 girls per 1,000 boys in 2014. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the campaign was launched in 2015 from Panipat, which has since improved the sex ratio to 910.

“Opposition Opposes Every Decision”

Responding to queries, the CM said the opposition rejects every government decision, even though PM Modi’s policies are praised worldwide. He clarified that the decision to provide jobs to families affected by the 1984 riots was not political but dedicated to the 350th martyrdom year of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.

CM Saini also accused the opposition of misleading the House on issues like collector rates and liquor contracts. On their walkout during a debate on law and order, he said: “We heard them patiently and even accepted adjournment motions, but when the government responded, they staged a protest and left. The people of Haryana can see that Congress is issue-less.”

On questions about the cycle rally (Cyclothon) organized by the Speaker to promote environmental conservation, the CM defended the initiative and criticized the opposition for dismissing it as “drama.”
