Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): The Haryana government has approved proposals related to electricity distribution, water supply, sewerage, roads, drainage and other infrastructure projects at meetings of the High Powered Purchase Committee (HPPC) and the High Power Works Purchase Committee chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
The meetings were held at Haryana Niwas in Chandigarh on Monday, October 19. According to the state government, the approved proposals cover multiple departments and are aimed at strengthening infrastructure and improving public services across Haryana.
The meeting was attended by Transport Minister Anil Vij, Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda, Cooperation Minister Arvind Sharma, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana, and senior officials from the concerned departments.
Electricity Distribution And Smart Grid Projects Approved
Among the proposals cleared were works intended to modernise Haryana’s electricity distribution network.
These include upgrading and modernising 11-kilovolt (11 kV) feeders in various areas, constructing new substations and implementing advanced systems such as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Distribution Management System (DMS)/Outage Management System (OMS).
These technologies are used to monitor and manage electricity networks, helping utilities track system performance and respond to faults or outages. The state government said the approved works are expected to strengthen the power distribution system and improve electricity supply.
The announcements did not specify the total expenditure, locations or completion timelines for the individual projects.

Proposals from several other departments also received approval, including those concerning water supply, sewerage facilities, stormwater drainage, road improvements and the construction of educational institutions.
The meeting covered departments dealing with transport, electricity, education, environment, cooperation, urban development, public health engineering, public works, and irrigation and water resources.
Projects aimed at increasing storage capacity were also among the proposals considered. However, the government’s announcement did not provide project-wise costs or detailed implementation schedules.
Air Quality Monitoring Centres Planned In NCR Districts
As part of its environmental initiatives, the Haryana government also approved a proposal related to establishing air quality monitoring centres in the state’s National Capital Region (NCR) districts.
Such monitoring facilities can help track pollution levels and provide data on local air quality. The announcement did not identify the proposed locations or specify when the centres would become operational.
CM Directs Departments To Maintain Quality And Transparency
During the meetings, Saini instructed officials to ensure that all approved development works are completed within their prescribed timelines and meet the required quality standards.
He stressed strict compliance with technical specifications in construction projects and called for regular monitoring of work on the ground. The Chief Minister also directed departments to review progress periodically and fix responsibility in cases where negligence is found.
Saini emphasised that government procurement and construction must follow transparent procedures and maintain financial discipline. He said public funds should be used with public interest as the priority and that quality should not be compromised.
The Chief Minister also called for better coordination among departments and efficient utilisation of available resources.
The approvals cover a range of infrastructure and public service areas, although the government has not released a consolidated financial outlay or detailed project-wise timelines in the information provided.
