Chandigarh, October 10, 2025: Haryana’s Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shyam Singh Rana is on a five-day official visit to Nairobi, Kenya, from October 9 to 13, leading a 20-member Indian delegation. The visit aims to deepen agricultural collaboration between India and Kenya, focusing on innovation, technology exchange, and trade in farm products.
During the visit, the Haryana delegation held productive discussions on Friday with officials from the International Institute of Agricultural Research and the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center. The talks covered agricultural innovation in maize and wheat, farm mechanization, climate-resilient strategies, and sharing of advanced agri-technologies.
Both sides agreed to launch exchange programs between agricultural universities and research institutions of India and Kenya to enhance cooperation in research, training, and the development of new technologies.
The delegation also visited the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) headquarters in Nairobi, where they held discussions with the Chamber’s CEO on agricultural trade, export-import opportunities, and market expansion.
Minister Shyam Singh Rana said the visit will open new opportunities for farmers in Haryana by connecting them with global innovations and successful agri-models that can help boost productivity and reduce costs.
He noted that India’s agricultural diversity—producing a wide range of grains, fruits, and vegetables—has earned the country a distinct global identity. Rana emphasized that India continues to play a leading role in addressing global food security challenges.
“Farmers and livestock breeders, supported by the government’s farmer-friendly policies, have made India’s agriculture sector stronger than ever,” he said. “Today, India is the world’s largest milk producer, a leader in coarse grains, and ranks second in rice and wheat production. Its contribution to fruits, vegetables, and fisheries is also remarkable.”
Rana added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, India’s agriculture sector is advancing rapidly, with foreign technology adoption directly benefiting farmers.
He expressed confidence that the Kenya visit will open new avenues of cooperation in agriculture and create technological partnerships that help farmers of both nations. “India today not only feeds its own population but also provides food supplies to several countries worldwide,” he said.
The delegation includes agricultural experts, university representatives, and farmers, who are observing Kenya’s advanced agricultural projects and innovations firsthand to explore potential applications in Haryana.
