Toronto/Chandigarh (National Times): Renowned Punjabi singer and actor Harbhajan Mann has shared the news of a personal loss—his father-in-law, Sardar Harcharan Singh Gill Ramuwalia, passed away in Toronto, where he had been residing for over five decades.
In a heartfelt social media post, Harbhajan Mann reflected on the life and legacy of S. Harcharan Singh Gill, fondly referring to him as “Papa Ji”. He expressed deep respect and gratitude for a man he described as wise, generous, and always encouraging.
“Papa Ji was a progressive thinker and kind-hearted person who was always of use to others. His teachings and memories will stay with us forever,” Mann wrote.
S. Harcharan Singh Gill was the eldest son of eminent Punjabi poet and Kavishar Karnail Singh Paras Ji, and served for years as a dedicated teacher in Punjab, beginning in his native village Ramunwala Nawan (District Moga) and later at various schools across the state.
His influence extended beyond the classroom. According to Harbhajan, Papa Ji’s spiritual grounding, positive spirit, and guidance shaped the values of the family. His passing has left a void not only within the Mann family but also among the community he served and inspired both in India and Canada.
The family is currently in Toronto, where final rites are expected to be held. Fans and members of the Punjabi community have been expressing their condolences and support, remembering Gill as a pillar of integrity, humility, and warmth.
“We pray that God grants him a place at His feet,” Harbhajan Mann concluded in his message.
