Rohtak/Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh/Balwinder Singh): Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the head of Dera Sacha Sauda, has been approved for another 40-day parole, authorities confirmed on Saturday. This comes nearly half a year after his previous parole in August 2025. He is expected to be released from prison either on Sunday or Monday.
The Rohtak Divisional Commissioner granted the temporary release to Ram Rahim, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence for the rape of two female disciples. In addition, he is serving a life term for the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.
This marks the 15th instance that Ram Rahim has been allowed to leave jail, either on parole or furlough, since his conviction. His last parole in August 2025 coincided with celebrations of his 58th birthday, according to reports.
The frequent paroles of the Dera chief have repeatedly drawn attention and criticism, given the serious nature of his convictions. Officials have not yet clarified the conditions tied to this latest parole, which typically includes restrictions on public appearances and movements.
The parole is likely to spark renewed discussions regarding the handling of high-profile prisoners and the balancing of legal provisions with public sentiment.
