New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): In a recent policy review session, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan underscored the government’s commitment to rural welfare, stating that revised GST structures for agricultural tools and machinery are poised to make a significant difference in the lives of Indian farmers.
The meeting, convened to evaluate the impact of the latest tax reforms on the agricultural sector, focused on translating policy into tangible benefits for cultivators. The minister emphasized that several farm-related products have now been moved into lower GST brackets, effectively reducing their market prices.
“Farmers Will Feel the Difference”
“With the revised GST rates, prices of various agricultural implements are expected to drop sharply,” said Chouhan. “This change is designed with the farmer in mind, to lighten their expenses and improve access to essential equipment.”
He urged manufacturers and distributors to ensure that these cost reductions are reflected in the retail pricing without delay. “This is not just a reform on paper—it must be visible in practice. The benefit must reach the farmer directly,” he asserted.
Information Campaigns in Villages
To guarantee that rural communities are well-informed about these policy shifts, the minister revealed that special awareness drives would be launched across the country. Government teams will travel to villages, educating farmers about the revised GST structure and helping them understand how they can make more cost-effective purchases.
“These aren’t just numbers or tax codes. These changes affect livelihoods. Our outreach will make sure no farmer is left behind,” Chouhan added.
Call for Industry Accountability
Chouhan also issued a firm reminder to suppliers and equipment dealers to align their pricing strategies with the updated tax norms. He called for accountability and transparency in the supply chain to ensure that the reduced tax burden translates into real savings for end users.
“If companies fail to pass on the benefit, we lose the purpose of this reform. It’s essential that industry stakeholders act in the spirit of this initiative,” he said.
