GRPF Personnel Shot by Motorcycle-Borne Attackers Near Ajnala, Investigation Underway

Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): A GRPF personnel was injured after unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly opened fire at him while he was returning home after completing his duty in Amritsar.

The incident took place on October 4 near a canal in the Ajnala area, roughly a kilometre from the personnel’s residence. According to police, Sukhchain Singh, who was posted with the GRPF in Amritsar, was travelling home on his motorcycle and was dressed in plain clothes when he came under attack.

Police said three unidentified youths riding a motorcycle were involved in the incident. One of them allegedly fired at Singh, with the bullet hitting his left shoulder before passing through.

Despite the gunshot injury, Singh survived the attack and was subsequently taken to Civil Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.

Police examine all possible angles

DSP Dharmendra Kalyan said police received information about the shooting on the evening of October 4 and immediately began looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The officer said the identities of the attackers and the reason behind the shooting have not yet been established. Investigators are examining different possibilities and gathering information that could help establish what led to the attack.

An FIR against unidentified persons is likely to have been registered as part of the investigation.

Police said further action will depend on the evidence gathered during the probe. Investigators are also working to establish the identities of the three motorcycle-borne suspects and determine whether the attack was targeted or linked to any specific dispute.

The investigation remains ongoing, with police examining every available lead to establish the sequence of events and identify those responsible for the shooting.
