Governor Kataria Updates Union Minister on Punjab Flood Situation, Submits District Report

Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): During his visit to Punjab on Thursday, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan received a detailed briefing from Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria regarding the widespread floods that have battered several parts of the state.

At a meeting held at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Governor Kataria presented a consolidated report covering Amritsar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur — the districts that bore the brunt of the recent deluge.

The Governor, who had inspected these districts between September 1 and 4, informed the Union Minister about the scale of destruction to crops, homes, public property and local infrastructure. He also outlined the relief and rescue operations being carried out jointly by the state administration, armed forces, disaster response teams, and volunteer groups.

Minister Chouhan said his visit was directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally gauge the situation and meet affected families. He assured that the Centre will stand shoulder to shoulder with Punjab, promising timely aid and support to speed up rehabilitation.

Later in the day, Chouhan is expected to tour several villages to gather first-hand accounts of the losses and challenges faced by the residents.
