Governor Dattatreya Calls for Unified Action Against Drug Abuse in Haryana

Chandigarh, June 26, 2025 — On the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya reiterated the state’s firm commitment to fighting the menace of drug addiction and securing the future of its youth. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to build a drug-free society.

Governor Dattatreya highlighted that drug abuse is not merely a health crisis, but a threat to the social fabric, national development, and the future of the younger generation. He called for a comprehensive, collaborative approach involving government agencies, civil society, educational institutions, NGOs, and families to tackle the issue effectively.

He commended Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and the state government for their intensive crackdown on narcotics, including large-scale seizures made by police and enforcement agencies in the past year. Under the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan,” Haryana has carried out impactful awareness campaigns, reaching millions through schools, colleges, street plays, community workshops, and rehabilitation drives.

Governor Dattatreya also stressed the importance of rehabilitation and de-addiction services. He urged for more rehabilitation centres, counselling services, and community-based support programs to reintegrate addicts into mainstream society with compassion and care. He called on NGOs, educators, and social workers to actively partner with the government in promoting healthy lifestyles and awareness against substance abuse.

Concluding his message, the Governor appealed to the people of the state, especially the youth, to take an active role in the fight against drugs. He said, “The future of Haryana lies in the strength and determination of its youth. Let us join hands to build a drug-free, healthy, and prosperous Haryana.”
