New Delhi, June 24, 2025 — Google has launched a powerful AI mode in India through its experimental platform Search Labs, offering users the ability to explore more complex questions, use multimodal inputs, and receive deeper, context-rich responses.
The new feature, powered by a custom version of Gemini 2.5, is currently available in English. It allows users to go beyond simple queries by submitting longer and more nuanced questions, with responses enriched by follow-up suggestions and helpful web links.
“Using a custom version of Gemini 2.5 lets you ask longer, more complex or nuanced questions that would have previously required multiple searches,” Google announced.
With this update, users can now pose queries two to three times longer than standard search inputs a significant leap forward in how exploratory searches, trip planning, product comparisons, or step-by-step guides are handled. Additionally, the system is multimodal, meaning users can ask questions by typing, speaking, or even uploading a photo.
Google says this feature is part of its long-term effort to redefine how people interact with information. “We aim to make finding and accessing complex information even more effortless,” the company said.
The update builds upon the success of AI Overviews, which now serves over 1.5 billion users monthly. The company highlighted that in major markets like the U.S. and India, AI Overviews have driven a more than 10% increase in usage for complex queries, with repeat usage growing steadily over time.
While the AI mode aims to offer generated responses as often as possible, Google clarified that in cases where AI confidence is low, users will be redirected to standard web search results.
To try the new AI search experience, users must enroll in Search Labs, where the AI mode is now live.
