GNDU Vice-Chancellor Removed from SGPC Panel After Controversial Interaction with RSS Chief

Amritsar, August 1, 2025 — The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has removed Dr. Karamjit Singh, the Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), from a key committee following a controversy surrounding his alleged remarks during a conversation with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief.

The decision came in the wake of a viral video circulating on social media in which Dr. Singh was reportedly seen expressing views perceived as anti-Sikh during his interaction with the RSS leader. The footage sparked immediate outrage within the Sikh community, prompting strong reactions from various quarters.

SGPC Secretary S. Pratap Singh confirmed the development and stated that the action was taken in response to public objections raised by the Sangat. SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami took swift steps to address the concerns by relieving Dr. Singh of his responsibilities on the committee that was tasked with reviewing the service rules of the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

The SGPC emphasized that the move was necessary to maintain the sanctity of the highest temporal authority of the Sikh faith. “Dr. Karamjit Singh has been relieved of his role in the committee to preserve the sanctity and sentiments attached to the apex temporal seat of the Sikh community,” read the official SGPC statement.

Reaffirming its dedication to the preservation of Sikh traditions and values, the SGPC stressed that individuals entrusted with significant roles must uphold the dignity and respect the deep-rooted sentiments of the Sikh faith.
