Gautam Adani Steps Down as Executive Chairman of APSEZ, Assumes Non-Executive Role

Mumbai, August 6, 2025 – In a significant leadership shift, Gautam Adani has stepped down from his position as Executive Chairman of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), transitioning to the role of Non-Executive Chairman with effect from August 5. The move comes as part of regulatory compliance and corporate restructuring within the Adani Group.

The company confirmed the decision in a regulatory filing, noting that Adani will no longer be considered a key managerial personnel (KMP) at APSEZ. The change aligns with the Companies Act, which restricts individuals from holding executive roles in multiple firms simultaneously. With APSEZ already having a Managing Director and a Whole-Time Director & CEO, the re-designation allows Adani to focus more on the broader strategic direction of other group entities.

“Mr. Adani continues as Chairman of APSEZ, and this transition enables him to concentrate on the long-term vision and expansion of the group’s other businesses,” the company stated.

Meanwhile, Manish Agarwal has been appointed as an additional director (non-executive, independent) of APSEZ for an initial three-year term starting August 5.

Adani, the founder and chairman of the Adani Group, brings over three decades of experience in building one of India’s most influential infrastructure conglomerates with operations spanning logistics, energy, and resources.

In a parallel development, APSEZ reported a robust financial performance for Q1 FY26. The company’s net profit rose 7% year-on-year to ₹3,311 crore, while revenue jumped 21% to ₹9,126 crore, up from ₹7,560 crore in the same quarter last year.

Ashwani Gupta, Whole-Time Director and CEO of APSEZ, credited the revenue surge to strong performance in the logistics and marine segments, which grew two-fold and nearly three-fold, respectively.
