National Times Bureau :- Notorious gangster Ranbir Rana was injured during an exchange of fire with the CIA (Crime Investigation Agency) team in Mohali on Monday evening. The encounter reportedly broke out when the police attempted to intercept Rana and his associates, who were allegedly planning a criminal operation in the area.
According to police sources, the CIA team had received a tip-off about Rana’s movement and set up a checkpoint near the outskirts of the city. When officers tried to stop his vehicle, the suspects allegedly opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate. During the brief gun battle, Rana sustained bullet injuries while one of his aides managed to flee the scene.
Police immediately rushed the injured gangster to a local hospital under tight security. His condition is said to be stable. Officials have also recovered a pistol, several live cartridges, and the vehicle used by the suspects.
Senior police officers confirmed that multiple criminal cases, including extortion, illegal arms possession, and attempt to murder, are already registered against Rana in different districts of Punjab. A search operation has been launched to nab his accomplices who escaped during the encounter.
Authorities said the incident marks another step in their ongoing crackdown on organized crime networks in the region.
