G7 Summit Triggers Major Traffic Disruptions Near Calgary Airport

Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): As Calgary prepares to welcome world leaders for the upcoming G7 Summit, residents and travellers are being urged to plan for significant traffic disruptions around Calgary International Airport from Sunday, June 15 to Wednesday, June 18, 2025. To accommodate the secure arrival and departure of delegates, the Airport Trail N.E. Tunnel—a critical route for airport-bound traffic—will be closed beginning at 1 a.m. on Sunday, June 15, and will remain inaccessible through June 18.

Alternate Routes & Key Closures:
• Travellers approaching the airport from eastern Calgary are advised to use Country Hills Boulevard N.E. → Barlow Trail N.E. as an alternative route.
• Airport Trail will remain open between Deerfoot Trail and Barlow Trail, but access through the tunnel will be blocked.
• The off-ramp from 19 Street N.E. to westbound Airport Trail will also be closed during this period.
• No stopping or parking will be permitted around the airport perimeter from Saturday, June 14 through Wednesday, June 18.
• The north end of McCall Way will be restricted to airport employees and authorized businesses only, with security checkpoints in place.
City officials strongly recommend that travellers allocate extra travel time and remain alert to rolling road closures. These may occur without prior notice as VIP motorcades transport international leaders to and from the airport under tight security protocols. We appreciate the public’s cooperation and patience as Calgary plays host to this important global event. Public safety and smooth operations are our top priorities,” said a city spokesperson.
Motorists are urged to follow police instructions and monitor real-time traffic updates via city websites, GPS navigation apps, or radio advisories throughout the summit.
