Mumbai (National Times): In a major development, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has lifted its ban on Diljit Dosanjh, allowing the popular singer-actor to complete his portions for the much-anticipated film Border 2. The decision follows a personal appeal by producer Bhushan Kumar, who requested the federation to reconsider their decision.
Diljit had landed in hot water with FWICE after promoting Sardaar Ji 3, which features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. This move drew backlash in light of renewed tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, prompting FWICE to impose a temporary ban on his work within the Indian film industry.
However, FWICE President BN Tiwari confirmed that Kumar’s intervention prompted a conditional reversal. “Bhushan Kumar personally reached out and explained that nearly 85% of the film was already complete. We’ve allowed him to finish Border 2, but we remain firm on our stand,” he said.
Veteran filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, associated with the federation, emphasized that while the ban has been lifted for this project alone, a non-cooperation notice against Diljit remains in place. “Any filmmaker who casts him in the future must be prepared for consequences. The Federation will not be liable for any financial losses,” he warned.
Bhushan Kumar has reportedly promised in writing that T-Series will not work with Diljit in future projects.
Meanwhile, Diljit Dosanjh put all speculation to rest by sharing a behind-the-scenes video from the sets of Border 2 on July 2. Dressed in uniform and donning a navy-blue turban, he was seen shooting a sequence with the background score of “Sandese Aate Hain” from the original Border.
Border 2 also features Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty, and is slated for release on January 23, 2026.
