New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against four individuals linked to the grenade attack that targeted the residence of former Punjab minister Manoranjan Kalia earlier this year in Jalandhar.
Among those named are two arrested suspects, Saidul Ameen from Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, and Abhijot Jangra of Kurukshetra, Haryana. Two others — Kulbir Singh Sidhu from Yamunanagar and Manish, alias Kaka Rana, of Karnal — are currently on the run. The accused face multiple charges under sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Indian Penal Code, and the Explosive Substances Act.
The incident occurred on April 7, 2025, when a grenade was thrown at Kalia’s residence. The NIA took over the investigation on April 12, uncovering a deeper plot involving members of the banned group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
Investigators allege that Kulbir Singh, said to be an active member of BKI, collaborated with Manish to assemble a terror group aimed at threatening prominent figures in Punjab to raise money for the organization. The probe revealed that Saidul Ameen was recruited to carry out the grenade attack, with logistical and financial support provided by the other accused.
Sources say the explosive used in the assault was supplied by Kulbir, while Abhijot arranged the necessary funds. After the attack, a poster claiming responsibility surfaced, allegedly shared by Kulbir and Manish to assert their role in the incident.
Kulbir, who is also wanted in another case concerning the killing of a VHP leader in 2024, is the subject of a red corner notice, with a reward of Rs 10 lakh announced for information leading to his arrest.
The NIA continues its pursuit of the absconding accused and is actively working to dismantle the wider network of BKI operatives operating within the country.
