Four Dead, Several Injured as Passenger Train Crashes into Goods Train Near Bilaspur

Bilaspur, November 4, 2025 — At least four people were killed and several others injured after a MEMU passenger train collided with a stationary goods train near Bilaspur railway station in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday afternoon. The collision occurred around 4 p.m. when the MEMU train, traveling from Gevra in Korba district to Bilaspur, rammed into the goods train from behind between Gatora and Bilaspur stations, officials confirmed.

Bilaspur Collector Sanjay Agrawal said four deaths have been confirmed so far, while two passengers remain trapped in the wreckage. Rescue teams are working tirelessly to free them. “The injured have been admitted to Apollo Hospital and Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) in Bilaspur. One passenger remains in critical condition,” Agrawal said.

Visuals from the site revealed the intensity of the impact, with a coach of the passenger train mounted onto a wagon of the goods train. Railway authorities stated that emergency teams have been deployed on a war footing for rescue and relief operations, while senior officials are present at the site to supervise efforts.

In an official statement, the Railways announced an ex gratia compensation of ₹10 lakh for the families of each deceased, ₹5 lakh for the seriously injured, and ₹1 lakh for passengers who suffered minor injuries. The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) will conduct a detailed inquiry to identify the cause of the collision and suggest preventive measures.

Helpline numbers have been issued for the convenience of passengers and their families. Authorities assured that all possible assistance is being provided. Relief and rescue operations continued late into the evening as efforts to restore normalcy and aid the victims of the tragic crash remained underway.
