Dera Bassi (Gurpreet Singh): Former MLA N.K. Sharma today launched the Shiromani Akali Dal’s plantation campaign in the Dera Bassi area, starting from the village Devi Nagar. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sharma shared that a forest will be developed on two acres of common village land in Devi Nagar.
He stated that the Akali Dal team in Dera Bassi aims to plant nearly 10,000 saplings. The saplings are being planted using proper scientific methods to ensure the development of a robust forest. After planting, the Shiromani Akali Dal team in the village will take responsibility for nurturing and maintaining the saplings.
Mr. Sharma emphasized that saving the environment is a pressing need of the times. To protect the plants, fencing will be installed around the plantation areas. Further plantation drives will be carried out in nature parks located in Peer Muchhalla, Chhat, and Baltana areas of Zirakpur.
He also released a mobile number, 9501287100, on which people can call to get free saplings. However, he clarified that individuals requesting saplings will be required to commit to their proper care and maintenance.
Mr. Sharma said that these saplings have been brought from nurseries in Saharanpur and are approximately six to eight feet tall to ensure they take root quickly. The saplings planted today included fruit-bearing and shade-giving species such as jamun, arjun, silver oak, guava, neem, mango, peepal, and bael, among others.
He further explained that fruit trees are being planted with the thought of attracting birds to these areas. He expressed confidence that with public cooperation, similar mini-forests would be established in every village across the constituency.
The event witnessed the presence of Circle President Rajinder Singh Isapur, Guraikbal Singh Poonia, Suresh Sardha, Mahinder Sood, Sunil Saini, Harvinder Pinka, and a large number of local villagers.
