Former DGP Rajinder Singh at Hackers Meetup: “Digital Awareness is the Strongest Weapon Against Cyber Threats”

Chandigarh, October 18: Over a hundred ethical hackers, cybersecurity professionals, and students came together at “Hackers Meetup 2025” on Saturday evening at Kisan Bhawan to engage in an open discussion on cyber safety and digital responsibility. The two-hour event saw vibrant exchanges on the growing challenges of online security in an increasingly digital world.

Former DGP Rajinder Singh, the chief guest at the event, addressed the young participants, saying, “We live in a digital age, but without digital security, freedom is incomplete. The knowledge of hacking is valuable only when it’s used to safeguard society.”

Organizer Harinder explained that the goal of the event was to demonstrate how even a minor lapse in caution can lead to account breaches and how basic preventive measures can help people stay protected. Co-organizer Ekamdeep added that the focus of the meetup was “Awareness Through Exposure,” aiming to replace fear with understanding — helping people recognize potential threats and learn practical ways to prevent them.

During the event, experts conducted live demonstrations of real-world cyberattacks such as WhatsApp Web exploits, phishing attempts, SIM-swap attacks, and spyware intrusions. They emphasized that enabling two-factor authentication (2FA), keeping apps updated, and downloading software only from trusted sources can prevent most such cyber threats.

Concluding the session, former DGP Rajinder Singh urged the youth to treat ethical hacking not merely as a profession but as a national responsibility, saying that cybersecurity today is as essential to the nation’s defense as any physical safeguard.
