Foreign Secretary Misri Briefs Parliamentarians on Key Foreign Policy Issues

New Delhi – Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has conducted a series of detailed briefings with various parliamentary delegations ahead of their upcoming visits abroad, shedding light on several critical foreign policy matters. His discussions spanned tensions with neighboring countries, international operations, and evolving diplomatic challenges with Western powers.

Clarifying the situation on the India-Pakistan border, Misri told the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs that the recent ceasefire was a purely bilateral decision. He emphasized it was achieved through direct communication between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both nations, firmly denying claims made by former U.S. President Donald Trump about mediating the pause in hostilities.

Addressing national security concerns, Misri also updated the panel on Operation Sindoor and developments in the probe into the Pahalgam terror attack. He revealed that terrorists involved in the incident had made contact with masterminds across the border in Pakistan, pointing to evidence of cross-border planning.

On India-U.S. relations, Misri discussed outcomes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit and emerging issues, including the U.S. stance on deporting undocumented Indian immigrants. He assured lawmakers that the Indian government is committed to ensuring humane treatment of deportees and is actively engaging with Washington to prevent any retaliatory trade measures.

Amid rising diplomatic strain with Canada, the Foreign Secretary provided insights into India’s position and explained the government’s ongoing efforts to manage the bilateral tension through diplomatic channels. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty while seeking constructive dialogue.

Misri’s briefings highlight the government’s strategy of keeping Parliament informed and involved in shaping India’s global engagement during turbulent geopolitical times.
