Folk Instruments and Traditional Music Enchant Visitors at Brahmasarovar During International Gita Mahotsav

Chandigarh, November 17 — The second day of the International Gita Mahotsav-2025 in Kurukshetra turned vibrant as the sounds of traditional Indian instruments echoed across the sacred Brahmasarovar. Artists from Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh filled the atmosphere with melodious folk tunes, drawing large crowds to the southern bank of the lake.

According to an official spokesperson, cultural groups from these states, invited by the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC) Patiala, showcased their regional heritage through folk songs and dance performances. The Brahmasarovar ghats have been hosting these cultural presentations as part of the Mahotsav’s first phase.

Like every year, the iconic stick walkers, who elevate their height by tying bamboo stilts to their feet, roamed the venue and remained a major attraction for children. Their playful movements added colour and excitement to the festive setting.

The Mahotsav also featured captivating performances on traditional instruments such as the been, bansuri, naagada, deru, and rhythmic beats associated with Rajasthani folk forms like kachchi ghodi. Each performance brought the lakefront alive with energy, often prompting visitors to dance along.

Organisers said that the International Gita Mahotsav has become an important platform for preserving India’s fading folk traditions. Artists from across the country are using this opportunity to revive cultural practices and connect the younger generation with the richness of regional art forms. The serene waves of Brahmasarovar seemed to sway in harmony as musicians played the been, offering a scene that blended devotion, culture and natural beauty.

Tourists and pilgrims at the venue expressed admiration for the artists, describing their performances as a celebration of India’s cultural spirit. With enchanting music, colourful attire and traditional rhythms, the folk artists added grandeur to the festivities and strengthened the cultural essence of the Mahotsav.
