Dhaka [Bangladesh], October 18, 2025: Flight operations at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport were suspended on Saturday after a massive fire broke out in the airport’s cargo section, according to bdnews.
Officials said the fire began near Gate 8 around 2:30 pm. Nine firefighting units were initially dispatched to control the flames, while 15 more joined shortly after. Later, Fire Service and Civil Defence Media Cell spokesperson Talha Bin Zasim confirmed that 28 units were actively engaged in extinguishing the blaze, with additional reinforcements en route.
“All our aircraft are confirmed safe. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops,” an airport spokesperson told The Daily Star.
The Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority, Fire Service, and two Bangladesh Air Force units participated in the firefighting operations, while two platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) assisted in rescue efforts, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Authorities confirmed there were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
