Father of Blogger Jyoti Malhotra Urges President Murmu to Cancel FIR, Alleges False Case

Chandigarh, August 6, 2025 — Harish Malhotra, father of travel blogger Jyoti Malhotra who was arrested on suspicion of spying for Pakistan, has appealed to President Droupadi Murmu to intervene and help secure his daughter’s release. In a letter sent to Rashtrapati Bhavan, he alleged that Jyoti is innocent and has been wrongly implicated without any substantial proof.

Harish claimed that police made Jyoti sign blank documents which were later filled with statements to support their version of the events. He questioned the fairness of the investigation, stating that no evidence of sedition or anti-national activity has been presented even after weeks of custody.

Highlighting inconsistencies, he pointed out that the FIR mentions IPC Section 152 which pertains to obstruction of public servants but does not mention sedition or any serious national security charge, despite police claiming she spied for Pakistan.

He further emphasized that Jyoti, a professional travel vlogger, was only filming routine content during her visit to Pakistan. “She’s just a content creator. There was nothing secretive or harmful in those videos. She has even said she will never visit Pakistan again. Please help her,” Harish pleaded.

Jyoti Malhotra appeared via video link before the court on Monday for the sixth time since her arrest. Her judicial custody was extended for another 14 days, with the next hearing set for August 18.
